| 1928 - 1949 |
The Faculty of Science has its roots in Raffles College, which was officially opened by Sir Hugh Clifford on 22 July 1929. |

The Department of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics were established with the opening of Raffles College in 1929 for the teaching of Arts and Science. |

The teaching of chemistry and physics can be traced back to 1905, when chemistry was taught to pre-medical students and physics was taught as a compulsory subject to students at the King Edward VII College of Medicine. Mathematics was taught to the Arts as well as the Science students from the beginning of Raffles College. |
| 1949 - 1961 |
Raffles College and King Edward VII College of Medicine were merged to form the University of Malaya in 1949. Raffles College formed the Faculties of Arts and Science and the King Edward VII College became the Faculty of Medicine. |

Department of Botany was founded in 1949 with the establishment of the University of Malaya. |

Department of Zoology was founded in 1950. |
| 1962 - 1980 |
The University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur was established in 1959, and in 1962 the branch in Singapore was renamed the University of Singapore. |

The Department of Pharmacy joined Faculty of Science in 1975. Before this, Pharmacy existed as a department in the Faculty of Medicine and following that, as an independent School of Pharmacy from 1965 to 1974. |
| 1980 - Present |
The National University of Singapore was officially established on 8 August 1980 with the merger of the University of Singapore and Nanyang University. |

On June 1981, the Science Faculty moved to Kent Ridge. |

On 1 May 1996, the School of Biological Sciences was established, through the merger of the Department of Botany and the Department of Zoology. |

On 1 May 1998, the name of the School of Biological Sciences was changed to Department of Biological Science. |
|
Department of Statistics & Applied Probability was established in 1998. |
